District Heights native ZaMarco Kyree Fogg was found by the police late in the afternoon on Thursday May 16 in the 6500 block of Hil Mar Drive, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound, officials say.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Prince George's County Police Department, which is still investigating the shooting to determine a cause and possible gunman.

"ZaMarco’s life was cut short, leaving an irreplaceable void in our family," his mother, Uzella Owens, said.

"His infectious laughter, his unwavering love for his children, and his bright future ahead of him have all been cruelly stolen from us."

Before his death, Fogg's family said that that the passionate dirt bike rider was an honor student, devoted father, a "shining light in their lives."

"As we grapple with the reality of this loss, we are faced with the daunting task of arranging his homegoing service and providing support for his grieving family and young children," Owens added.

"The financial burden of laying ZaMarco to rest is heavy, and the emotional toll is unimaginable," she continued. "We are humbly asking for your support during this darkest chapter of our lives."

Thousands of dollars have been raised on behalf of Fogg's family and children in the days following his death, with more than 75 donations pouring in.

"Additionally, they will provide much-needed assistance to his young family as they navigate a world forever changed by his absence," Owens said.

"Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will be a ray of light in our time of immense sorrow."
